De La Calle Tepache

Prickly Pear Fermented Soda

(4)
13.1 oz

The vivid pink hue of this can hints at the stunning, oil painting-esque sunsets of the Mexican landscape, and this soda is every bit as delicious to drink as it is beautiful to look at. Opuntia, or the prickly pear cactus, are native to the Americas, and have a bright, earthy tartness that one would never know came from a cactus! Tepache is a traditional drink made with the peel and rind of pineapples, and usually fermented in giant barrels before being sold by street vendors in Mexico. Tepache used to be made of corn, before transitioning to the sweeter pineapple. Try this deliciously sweet soda by itself or with some snacks!

This was the first gross item I’ve received after 6 lucky boxes. It had almost no flavour. Like less flavour than a white claw and without the alcohol. One sip and I spit it out and dumped the can.

Definitely an acquired taste. I was repulsed by the first sip but not enough to completely reject the drink. I kept sipping and it began to grow on me. It became tolerable.

Melissa, Bernard, IA

Nasty. Poured down the drain.

Debra, EASTON, PA

This was disgusting. Please choose better flavors!
