La Vraie Violette de Liège is a violet-flavored hard candy. The family-owned confectionery and bakery Gicopa, based south of Liège in Sprimont, created the sweet in 1895. Today, it’s Gicopa’s most popular product, dyed in the vivid hue of a violet flower. But it is no shrinking violet! The sour variant of the famous candy is dusted with sour powder for a delightfully unique bite that explodes with the tartness of citrus. The sourness helps balance the fragrant floral taste, keeping the candy from being too “perfume-y” or overly sweet.
