Luckily, modern-day Jordan was on this hot tip around 3000 years ago, which is probably one reason we have so many delightful nutty snacks today. Like these Amaretti Virginia Soffici – soft almond cookies from Italy, a country with historic trade links to the Middle East. They’re chewy, almondy (duh) and utterly addictive, especially with coffee. The wrappers are pretty too, with cool Art Nouveau-style illustrations.
