Mitarashi Dango (Sweet Soy Glazed Rice Dumplings)

Ingredients
- 1 cup shiratamako (glutinous rice flour) or mochiko
- 1/3 cup water
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons mirin (sweet rice wine)
- 1 tablespoon water (for sauce)
- Optional: skewers for serving
Preparation
- In a bowl, mix the rice flour with 1/3 cup water until it forms a smooth dough.
- Divide the dough into small balls (about 1 inch / 2.5 cm).
- Bring a pot of water to a boil and cook the dumplings until they float (about 3–5 minutes). Remove and place in cold water briefly, then drain.
- Thread 3–4 dumplings onto a skewer (optional).
- In a small pan, mix soy sauce, sugar, mirin, and 1 tablespoon water. Heat gently until the sugar dissolves and the sauce thickens slightly.
- Brush or pour the sauce over the dumplings and serve warm
